More Details

Prof. Andrei Lankov and three North Korean ladies who escaped from North Korea will be featured speakers at a March 15 forum about North Korean women.

1) Andrei Lankov, author of the book The Real North Korea, has agreed to speak at this event. Although he is known for his analysis of various high-level political issues, if you read his column on a regular basis, you'll know that he has deep knowledge about North Korean history, culture, and life. One aspect of that is his wide breadth of knowledge about the lives of North Korean women. He has written and spoken about the way markets in North Korea are mainly being run by women.

2) The Li sisters have agreed to speak. They are really interesting, have traumatic but also inspiring stories. One will speak in Korean, the other is determined to give at least part of her talk in English.

Here's the Facebook invitation.

If you would like to reserve a seat in advance, it is 10,000 won per person. If you wait until a week before the event, it will go up to 15,000 won per person. You can also pay 15,000 won at the door, assuming there are still seats left.

As usual, I can't do it alone. In this case, Joo Yeon Cho has already agreed to be our interpreter at the event. So she will be meeting with the ladies in advance to make sure she knows their stories in as much detail as possible, and so we can capture the essence of what the ladies are trying to say.

Thanks to Lee Eunkoo, she found the location, saving me a lot of drama and time. I will post more details about it later, it is about a three minute walk from the city hall station, I will post step by step directions a bit later, and will try to have at least one person ready to meet people at the City Hall subway exit 11 at 1:45 to guide people.

Another upcoming event: An international rally in support of North Korean refugees and prisoners of the Kim dynasty.
